What is EPSO?

The EPSO (European Personnel Selection Office) is the European personnel selection office that organizes competitions to work in the institutions of the European Union: European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the European Union, and other EU bodies.

Each year EPSO publishes several competition notices to recruit officials in various profiles and career levels.

What is the AD5 competition?

The EPSO/AD/427/26 – Administrators (AD 5) competition aims to create a reserve list of 1490 successful candidates for the role of Administrator.

AD5 is the entry level for the administrative career in EU institutions. Those who pass the competition can be hired by any EU institution, body or agency.

Application (by March 10, 2026)

Online application with upload of valid identity document. Choose your Language 1 (C1) and Language 2 (B2).

Cognitive tests (remote and proctored)

All candidates are invited to take the following tests:

• Verbal Reasoning (Language 1): 20 questions, 35 min — Pass: 10/20
• Numerical Reasoning (Language 1): 10 questions, 20 min
• Abstract Reasoning (Language 1): 10 questions, 10 min
→ Numerical + Abstract combined: Pass: 10/20
• EU Knowledge (Language 2): 30 questions, 40 min — Pass: 15/30
• Digital Skills (Language 2): 40 questions, 30 min — Pass: 20/40
• EUFTE (EU Free-Text Essay) (Language 2): 40 min — Pass: 5/10

Scoring & Ranking

Preliminary score (to reach EUFTE correction):

  • • Verbal Reasoning: 40%
  • • EU Knowledge: 30%
  • • Digital Skills: 30%

Only the top ~2235 candidates (1.5 × 1490) receive EUFTE correction and eligibility check.

Final score (determines the reserve list):

  • • Verbal Reasoning: 35%
  • • EU Knowledge: 25%
  • • Digital Skills: 25%
  • • EUFTE: 15%

Reserve List & Recruitment

The best 1490 candidates (plus any ties) enter the reserve list. EU institutions can draw from this list to hire administrators.

Winning strategy: what to focus on

Given the scoring system, your absolute priority must be:

  1. 1. Verbal Reasoning (Language 1) — huge weight (40% preliminary, 35% final)
  2. 2. EU Knowledge (Language 2) — 30% preliminary, 25% final
  3. 3. Digital Skills (Language 2) — 30% preliminary, 25% final
  4. 4. Numerical + Abstract — you only need to pass the combined pass mark (10/20), extra points don't count
  5. 5. EUFTE — only counts if you reach the top ~2235 (15% of final score)
